# Interchain Foundation grants ended: Cosmos funding now

> Interchain Foundation grants closed after December 2024. What else ended across Cosmos (AADAO, Osmosis) and three programs still open: dYdX, Akash and Nym.

Last reviewed 2026-10-31. Dates are UTC.

Interchain Foundation grants are no longer available. The ICF said on December 11, 2024 that its open funding program would be spun down, its application form now reads "grant program temporarily closed", and its funding repository was archived on April 20, 2026. As of October 2026, open Cosmos funding in our directory comes from three projects: the dYdX Grants Program, the Akash Community Pool and the Nym Squad League.

## Key takeaways

- The Interchain Foundation's 2024 Funding Program set aside $26.4 million for CometBFT, the Cosmos SDK, IBC, CosmWasm, CosmJS and security audits, mostly as large contracts with outside teams.
- The ICF now funds Cosmos stack work through teams it owns, mainly Cosmos Labs, and has no open application or RFP.
- On September 1, 2026 the ICF announced a grant program limited to chains affected by the Cosmos EVM vulnerability; no application route has been published.
- Other Cosmos funds have also stopped: the ATOM Accelerator DAO is winding down, and the Osmosis Grants Program has taken no outside applications since January 2024.
- The dYdX Grants Program is the clearest open option: rolling applications, about three weeks to a decision, and payment in USDC or DYDX.

## Does the Interchain Foundation still give grants?

No. When we checked on October 1, 2026, the Interchain Foundation (ICF) had no open grant program. Its public application form said "grant program temporarily closed" and no longer accepted responses, and its [funding repository](https://github.com/interchainio/funding) on GitHub was archived on April 20, 2026.

Our research ledger records ICF grants as discontinued, one of 26 discontinued programs among the 123 we checked in October 2026 that are not in our directory. For Cosmos programs that are open, see [Cosmos grants](https://www.web3grant.com/ecosystems/cosmos).

## What happened to ICF funding?

The ICF stopped funding outside teams through open applications and now funds Cosmos development through teams it owns.

For years the ICF paid for the open-source Cosmos stack, mostly through large annual contracts with outside teams. Its 2024 Funding Program set aside $26.4 million for CometBFT, the Cosmos SDK, IBC, CosmWasm, CosmJS and security audits, including $3 million for CometBFT and $7.5 million for IBC. The ICF never published a per-grant range or payment currency; its most common agreements were service agreements, paid when deliverables were fulfilled.

In December 2024 Skip joined the ICF as its subsidiary, Interchain Inc., and on December 11, 2024 the ICF said its stewardship model and funding program would be spun down. Product and development now sit with Cosmos Labs, and core Cosmos software is maintained by teams the ICF owns and funds.

### The Cosmos EVM grant program

On September 1, 2026 the ICF announced a grant program limited to chains affected by the Cosmos EVM vulnerability. We found it only through news reports of the announcement, and no official ICF page describes it. Its budget, eligibility and application route have not been published. It is not open to new projects in general.

## Which other Cosmos grant programs ended?

The ICF was not the only Cosmos funder to stop. These were checked on October 1 and 2, 2026:

| Program | Status | What we found |
| --- | --- | --- |
| ATOM Accelerator DAO (AADAO) | Winding down | Wind-down thread opened Aug 7, 2025; only existing grantee milestones paid; site archived |
| Osmosis Grants Program | Paused | No outside applications since Jan 2024; "maintenance mode" by Aug 2025; grants site failed to load Oct 1, 2026 |
| Neutron Grants Program | Unclear | neutrongrants.com no longer resolves; Neutron's site and forum redirect to a post on X |
| Axelar community pool | Unclear | Docs describe it, but none of the last 120 governance proposals was a pool spend |

**The ATOM Accelerator DAO**, the Cosmos Hub's governance-mandated grants DAO, cut its grant staff roles by July 2025. In October 2025 its remaining oversight member said only existing grantee milestones were still being paid and that assets were being returned to the Cosmos Hub.

**The Osmosis Grants Program** switched to sourcing grantees itself in January 2024. Its v4 term, approved in December 2024, moved into maintenance mode by August 2025, funding only critical contracts and the occasional new grant on about $5,000 a month in costs. A March 2026 proposal called COSMOSIS would re-mandate the program under Cosmos Hub governance to run Osmosis itself.

**Axelar's** docs still describe community pool spending proposals: a 7-day forum discussion, then a 72-hour onchain vote with a 33.4% quorum. But a July 2026 proposal raised the minimum deposit to 150,000 AXL, while the docs still say 2,000 AXL, so check the current rules onchain before you plan around it.

## Where can Cosmos builders get funding now?

Three Cosmos programs in our directory take applications as of October 31, 2026. Each funds work for its own network, not the Cosmos stack in general:

- [dYdX Grants Program](https://www.web3grant.com/grants/dydx-grants-program): dYdX Foundation. Grant size: Not published. Always open: no deadline, applications reviewed as they arrive.
- [Akash Community Pool](https://www.web3grant.com/grants/akash-community-pool): Akash Network. Grant size: Not published. Always open: no deadline, applications reviewed as they arrive. Note: No outside team has won a community pool vote since August 2025. Recent spends went to work run by the core teams.
- [Nym Squad League](https://www.web3grant.com/grants/nym-squad-league): Nym. Grant size: Up to $2.7K (USD equivalent). Always open: no deadline, applications reviewed as they arrive.

### dYdX Grants Program

The dYdX Foundation funds work that improves the dYdX user experience, grows trading activity and strengthens the security and reliability of dYdX Chain. Its funding plan splits roughly 50% to infrastructure, tooling and security, 30% to ecosystem and token growth, and 20% to research and development.

You can apply at any time through an online form or answer one of the program's requests for proposals. A Grants Lead screens applications and interviews applicants to set milestones and costs, then sends approved grants to a committee for a 48-hour review. The program says the whole process takes about three weeks. Grantees sign a contributor agreement, complete KYC, and are paid in USDC or DYDX.

Many dYdX grants are ongoing service contracts, such as RPC nodes and data services, paid monthly. Smaller one-off grants include a $3,000 integration. The program published no grant range; its 2026 priorities include AI agents, yield products and prediction markets.

### Akash Community Pool

Akash's community pool lets any person or team ask for AKT for a project that helps the Akash Network. You post a draft on the Governance Proposals board in Akash's GitHub discussions, with a timeline, amount and a cost breakdown in hours and hourly rate, then submit it onchain with a 1,000 AKT deposit. Voting runs for 7 days, and the deposit is returned unless the vote ends in "no with veto".

Be realistic about the odds. No outside team has won a community pool vote since August 2025, and recent spends went to work run by the core teams. The last outside winners were Chakra (13,279 AKT, March 2025) and Blockworks Research (71,970 AKT, August 2025).

### Nym Squad League

The Nym Squad League is Nym's community contribution program. Its main developer grant, Build with Nym, funds fully open-source tools and apps that use the Nym mixnet, with a listed maximum of 100,000 NYM per project, about $2,700 at the October 2026 NYM price. Other grants pay for node mentoring, translations, community management and commissioned content. In Spring 2026 the program paid 824,397 NYM across 59 contributions. ## How do community pool proposals differ from foundation grants?

A community pool is a treasury held by the chain itself, and spending from it needs a governance proposal that passes a stake-weighted onchain vote. There is no foundation reviewer to persuade, but every token holder can read and vote on your request.

That changes how you apply. You publish a draft in public, answer questions from the community, budget in line items, and put up a deposit you can lose in some outcomes. Akash and Axelar both work this way. Our guides to [blockchain treasury funding](https://www.web3grant.com/guides/blockchain-treasury-funding) and [how to write a DAO funding proposal](https://www.web3grant.com/guides/dao-funding-proposal) cover the process, and [how to apply for Web3 grants](https://www.web3grant.com/guides/how-to-apply-for-web3-grants) covers the foundation-style route used by dYdX.

## FAQ

### Is the ICF Cosmos EVM grant program open to new projects?

No. The Interchain Foundation's grant program announced on September 1, 2026 is limited to chains affected by the Cosmos EVM vulnerability. As of October 2026 the ICF had not published its budget, eligibility rules or how to apply, and web3grant found it only through news reports of the announcement. It does not reopen general Interchain Foundation grants.

### What happened to the ATOM Accelerator DAO?

The ATOM Accelerator DAO (AADAO), the Cosmos Hub's governance-mandated grants DAO, is winding down and takes no new applications. Grant staff roles were cut by July 2025, a wind-down thread opened on August 7, 2025, and in October 2025 its remaining oversight member said only existing grantee milestones were being paid. Its website now serves only an archived copy.

### How much does the dYdX Grants Program pay?

The dYdX Grants Program publishes no grant range. Grants are set case by case: many are ongoing service contracts paid monthly, and smaller one-off grants include a $3,000 integration. In August 2025 the program was funded with about $9.2 million. dYdX grants are paid in USDC or DYDX, and grantees complete KYC and sign a contributor agreement.

### Can anyone submit an Akash community pool proposal?

Yes. Any person or team can ask the Akash community pool for AKT, for a project of any size that benefits the Akash Network. The draft must be posted publicly on Akash's GitHub discussions first, and the onchain proposal needs a 1,000 AKT deposit. Since August 2025 no outside team has won a vote, so prepare for close scrutiny.
