Base grants in 2026: what Base offers builders now
Updated 7 min readBy the web3grant editors
Base grants exist, but as of October 31, 2026 we could not confirm an open application. Base's docs describe a Builder Grant Program paying up to $5,000 plus go-to-market and product support, announced around August 10, 2026. Round 1 has closed. Around October 27, Base posted on X that Season 2 is live, but we found no deadline or docs page.
Key takeaways
- Base's Builder Grant Program pays up to $5,000 per team, plus go-to-market, product and technical support, to teams with a live product built only on Base.
- Round 1 opened around August 10, 2026. On October 1, 2026 the application form said Round 1 was closed and the next round would be announced on X.
- Around October 27, 2026, Base posted on X that "Season 2 of the Builder Grant Program is live", with $5,000 grants. On October 29 we found no deadline or docs page for it, so it is not in our directory yet.
- Base's other money is investment or content funding: Base Batches ($100,000 investment), the Base Ecosystem Fund (pre-seed and seed) and a Creator Grant Program (up to $4,000).
- The older retroactive Base grants paid 1 to 5 ETH. Base's current docs no longer mention them.
What we verified about Base grants, and what we didn't
We checked Base's docs and application form on October 1, 2026 and rechecked on October 29, 2026. This is exactly where each fact stands:
| Fact | Status | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Builder Grant Program pays up to $5,000 plus GTM, product and technical support | Verified | Base docs, Oct 1, 2026 |
| Round 1 opened around Aug 10, 2026 | Approximate | Earliest public mention; Base's recap of the week ending Aug 15 |
| Round 1 is closed | Verified | Application form, Oct 1, 2026 |
| Round 1 closing date | Never published | None |
| "Season 2 of the Builder Grant Program is live", $5,000 grants | Posted on X around Oct 27, 2026 | Not read directly; no deadline or docs page as of Oct 29 |
| Payment currency, budget, number of grants, review time | Not published | None |
Our October 29 recheck did not add the Builder Grant Program back to the directory: we still need to read the Season 2 post directly and have an official page with dates to link. Until then it is not among the 99 programs we list. If you find an official Base page with Season 2 dates, send it to us through suggest a program.
How does the Base Builder Grant Program work?
The Builder Grant Program gives teams already live on Base a small amount of early capital, up to $5,000, together with go-to-market, product and technical support and access to Base's Builder Stack of tools and credits. Base says it gives grants very selectively. Applications open in rounds through a short form.
Who qualifies?
Base's docs set four conditions:
- You build exclusively on Base.
- You are past the idea stage, with a live product that people use.
- You have integrated a Base Builder Code.
- You need product, go-to-market and launch help more than capital.
A Builder Code is an identifier you add to your app so Base can attribute your app's onchain transactions to you. Base asks you to integrate one before you apply.
What does Base want to fund?
The focus areas Base lists for the program are:
- Prediction markets and token launchpads
- DeFi: lending, borrowing, looping, yield, vaults and tokenized equities
- Agents: commerce, x402 payments and autonomous trading
- Products that create new onchain assets
- Consumer apps focused on transaction growth
What does the application ask for?
The form asks for your live product, a demo video, your Base contract address, usage numbers, your revenue model and a three-month go-to-market plan. The Base team reviews applications and contacts the teams it selects. Selected teams get the grant and join a cohort with go-to-market, product and technical support. Base has not published a review time, a payment currency or a tranche schedule.
What happened to the old Base retroactive grants?
Base's earlier Builder Grants, from 2023, were retroactive: they paid 1 to 5 ETH to projects chosen by the Base team and through nominations. Recipients in a December 2023 cohort included Daimo, Uplink and Slice.
The old nomination form still accepted submissions when we checked, but Base's current docs no longer mention that program and describe the application-based Builder Grant Program instead. We treat the retroactive grants as replaced. Don't count on a nomination, and note that the new program has not published any recipients.
How to check whether Season 2 is open
Base's form said the next round would be announced on X, so the safest check uses Base's own channels:
- Start from the Base builders page in Base's docs and look for a Season 2 section, dates or a new form.
- Read the Season 2 post on Base's official X account yourself, and follow only links that come from Base's own accounts or docs.
- Look for a deadline. Round 1 never published a closing date, so if Season 2 is open, apply early.
- Integrate a Builder Code first, and have your contract address, usage numbers and demo video ready.
Never pay a fee or share a seed phrase to apply for a grant. Our guide to crypto grant scams covers the patterns to watch for.
Base funding that isn't a grant
Base runs three other funding routes, and only one of them is a grant:
- Base Batches is an accelerator that offers a $100,000 investment from the Base Ecosystem Fund. Batches 004 took applications from August 19 to September 9, 2026.
- The Base Ecosystem Fund makes pre-seed and seed investments together with Coinbase Ventures.
- The Creator Grant Program, launched on September 2, 2026, pays up to $4,000 to people making content about Base. We did not verify whether it is still accepting applications.
An investment is not a grant: read the terms before you apply. Our guide to the crypto ecosystem fund model explains the difference, and Web3 content creator grants covers funding for writers and video makers.
Grants Base builders can apply to now
Because Base's own grant requires you to build only on Base, the open alternatives come from protocols and multichain programs that fund work whatever chain it runs on. These six in our directory are open as of October 31, 2026:
- Uniswap Foundation Open GrantsUniswap FoundationThe Foundation is spending down its remaining grants budget and plans to close once it is committed. Check the site before you apply.UndisclosedAnytime
- CoW DAO GrantsCoW DAOUndisclosedAnytime
- The Graph Grants ProgramThe Graph Foundation$1K–$325KAnytime
- TheDAO Security FundTheDAO Security FundUp to $640K91 days
- Open Source AGI GrantsSentient FoundationUndisclosedAnytime
- Tether Grants and BountiesTether$1.5K–$5KAnytime
If your Base app integrates a protocol, that protocol's own grants may fund the integration. Uniswap Foundation Open Grants fund work that clearly fits the Uniswap ecosystem, but the Foundation is spending down its remaining budget and plans to close once it is committed. CoW DAO funds SDKs, integrations and tooling for CoW Protocol, and The Graph funds Subgraph tooling and data services.
TheDAO Security Fund's Round Two, open until January 31, 2027, co-funds work that makes Ethereum or its L2s measurably safer. For agent builders, Sentient Foundation funds open-source AI, and Tether pays task-based grants for its open stack, including the WDK wallet kit and QVAC local AI.
Three programs Base builders often hear about are not options right now. Optimism Retro Funding has been paused since January 2026, as our guide to Optimism grants explains. Gitcoin Grants has run no round since October 2025. And the Ethereum Foundation's audit subsidy covers Ethereum mainnet only. FAQ
How much is a Base Builder Grant?
A Base Builder Grant is up to $5,000 per team, plus go-to-market, product and technical support and access to Base's Builder Stack of tools and credits. Base publishes no minimum, payment currency or tranche schedule. Base's X post about Season 2, around October 27, 2026, also described $5,000 grants. The older retroactive Base grants paid 1 to 5 ETH.
Do I need a Builder Code to apply for a Base grant?
Yes. Base asks applicants to integrate a Base Builder Code before applying, so it can attribute an app's onchain transactions to the team that built it. The application form also asks for a Base contract address and usage numbers. Without a Builder Code and live activity on Base, an application to the Builder Grant Program is unlikely to qualify.
Can I get a Base grant if my app is also on other chains?
Probably not. The Base Builder Grant Program's eligibility says you build exclusively on Base, past the idea stage, with a live product that people use. A multichain app does not meet that rule as written. Multichain projects have better odds with protocol or chain-agnostic programs, such as CoW DAO Grants, The Graph Grants Program or TheDAO Security Fund.
Does Base fund projects at the idea stage?
Not through the Base Builder Grant Program, which requires a live product with users and says it gives grants very selectively. Base's other routes are investments rather than grants: Base Batches offers a $100,000 investment from the Base Ecosystem Fund, and the fund makes pre-seed and seed investments with Coinbase Ventures. Read any investment terms carefully before you apply.
Why isn't the Base Builder Grant Program in web3grant's directory?
web3grant's October 29, 2026 recheck left the Base Builder Grant Program out because the Season 2 announcement existed only as a post on X, which we had not yet read directly, with no deadline or docs page to link. Round 1 had already closed. The program can be added once Base publishes Season 2 dates on an official page. Until then, check Base's docs and X account directly.
