About Bitcoin Design Foundation Grants
The Bitcoin Design Foundation is a donor-funded non-profit, hosted by Open Collective Europe, that grows out of the Bitcoin Design Community behind the Bitcoin Design Guide and Bitcoin UI Kit. It gives grants so designers and researchers can spend more of their time on open-source Bitcoin user experience.
Grants are tailored to each person but tend to fall into three shapes: Starter grants (often part-time for 3 to 6 months), Contributor grants (often part-time for 6 months) and Champion grants for people leading larger initiatives (part- or full-time for 6 to 12 months). Grantees set their own hours and plans and are expected to work in public and mentor others.
Areas the Foundation wants to support include UX best practices for BOLT12, silent payments and other new Bitcoin technology, merchant and in-person payments, ecash (Fedimint and Cashu), key projects such as the Bitcoin Core App and Saving Satoshi, and wallet accessibility.
