About Canton Development Fund
The Canton Development Fund pays for open work that makes the Canton Network more useful, secure and resilient: core protocol research, developer tools and SDKs, security reviews, reference implementations and shared infrastructure. Canton has no premine or treasury, so the fund is fed by 5% of future Canton Coin emissions, set by CIP-0082.
You submit a proposal as a pull request to the canton-foundation/canton-dev-fund repository, either in answer to one of the Foundation's published Requests for Proposals or as your own initiative. Special Interest Groups and Core Contributors review it, the Tech & Ops Committee assesses it, and a five-member Voting Group makes the final call.
Grants are paid in Canton Coin after each milestone is accepted, and sizes vary widely: a community toolkit asked for 200,000 CC, while OpenZeppelin's accepted ecosystem stack proposal totals about 28.4M CC. The fund only supports work that is a common good for the ecosystem, not private or proprietary products.
