MetaMask Grants DAO: is it still funding projects?

Updated 5 min readBy the web3grant editors

MetaMask Grants DAO does not appear to be funding projects as of October 2026. Its site and application form were still online when we checked on October 2, 2026, but its last Snapshot grant vote was created on December 22, 2023, its announcements page stops in December 2022, and its apply page says Consensys cannot promise when or whether applications will be reviewed.

Key takeaways

  • The MetaMask Grants DAO website and application form were online on October 2, 2026, so the program looks open at first glance.
  • Its last grant vote on Snapshot, Grants Proposal #013 for zkFi, was created on December 22, 2023, and its announcements page has nothing after December 2022.
  • The apply page itself says Consensys cannot promise when or whether applications will be reviewed.
  • web3grant does not list the program; wallet builders have better odds with open programs such as TheDAO Security Fund for wallet security or chain programs that name wallets as a priority.

Is MetaMask Grants DAO still active?

It looks dormant: online, but with no sign of grants being made for nearly three years. We checked the program's own pages and its Snapshot voting space on October 2, 2026:

A program is dormant, in our terms, when it still accepts submissions but shows no evidence that anyone is reviewing or funding them. That is different from a program that has formally closed. You can read the caveat yourself on the MetaMask Grants DAO apply page and compare the latest grantees page with today's date.

Should you still apply?

You can, but do not plan around it. Submitting the form costs only your time, and nothing in our research says it is closed. The program's own wording, though, tells you not to expect a timeline or even a review.

If you do apply, treat it as a lottery ticket, not a funding plan:

  1. Keep it short. Reuse a proposal you have already written for an active program rather than writing a new one.
  2. Apply elsewhere at the same time. Nothing stops you from submitting to an open program in parallel; just disclose other applications where a form asks.
  3. Do not pay anyone to speed it up. With no review timeline even from the program, anyone offering inside access is not legitimate. Our guide to crypto grant scams covers the patterns.

Why MetaMask Grants DAO is not in web3grant's directory

web3grant lists programs that are open and show signs of actually funding work. Between October 1 and October 29, 2026 we checked 222 candidate programs; 99 are in the directory and 123 are not. MetaMask Grants DAO is in the second group because a form with no grant vote since 2023 and no review commitment does not meet that bar.

If the program starts approving grants again, it can be added back. Until then, the Web3 grant directory lists what is open now.

Where can wallet and Snaps builders apply instead?

Wallet funding still exists, but it is spread across security funds, chain programs and Bitcoin funders rather than one wallet-focused DAO. These programs name wallets in what they fund and are open as of October 31, 2026:

Ethereum wallet security

TheDAO Security Fund is the strongest fit for Ethereum wallet work. Its Round Two, open from September 15, 2026 to January 31, 2027, co-funds wallet and signing security, including Safe and account abstraction tooling. It funds initiatives other parties will adopt, not a single team's product, and it will not pay for your own audits.

For an audit of your own wallet contracts, the Ethereum Audit Subsidy Program covers up to 30% of an audit for teams building on Ethereum mainnet, from a $1M pool. Our guide to smart contract audit subsidies compares it with the others.

Wallet kits and chain programs

  • Tether Grants and Bounties pays $1,500 to $5,000 in USDT or bitcoin for tasks on its open stack, including the Wallet Development Kit (WDK) for self-custodial wallets inside apps.
  • RootstockCollective Grants fund wallets and onboarding that cut time to first transaction, up to $35,000 in USDRIF.
  • Gravity Developer Grants list wallets among their infrastructure priorities, with grants up to $200,000 in G tokens.
  • Solana Mobile Builder Grants fund apps and integrations built on the Solana Mobile Stack, including Mobile Wallet Adapter and Seed Vault.
  • Zcash Community Grants fund wallets, hardware wallet support and shielded payments.

Bitcoin wallets

The BDK Foundation funds developers who maintain the open-source Bitcoin Dev Kit wallet libraries, and the Bitcoin Design Foundation funds wallet UX and accessibility work. OpenSats funds wallets and developer libraries, with its Q4 2026 window open until November 30, 2026. See Bitcoin grants for the rest.

If you build MetaMask Snaps

Snaps are extensions that add features to MetaMask. No program in our directory funds Snaps as such, so pitch the Snap by what it does: support for a specific chain belongs in that chain's grant program, and a security feature belongs with a security funder. Our guide to crypto wallet grants goes through wallet funding in more depth.

FAQ

When did MetaMask Grants DAO last vote on a grant?

The most recent grant vote web3grant found in the MetaMask Grants DAO Snapshot space is Grants Proposal #013, for zkFi, which was created on December 22, 2023. No later grant vote appeared when we checked on October 2, 2026. Our research recorded when that proposal was created, not its outcome, so check the Snapshot space for the result.

Is the MetaMask Grants DAO application form still open?

The MetaMask Grants DAO application form link was still online on October 2, 2026, so you can technically submit. The apply page, however, says Consensys cannot promise when or whether applications will be reviewed, and the program has shown no grant vote since December 2023. An open form is not evidence that anyone is reviewing submissions.

Does MetaMask fund Snaps developers?

web3grant found no active MetaMask funding program for Snaps developers as of October 2026. MetaMask Grants DAO is the only MetaMask grant program in our research, and it looks dormant. Snaps developers can pitch their work to the grant program of the chain the Snap supports, or to a security funder if the Snap adds a security feature.

How can I tell if a grant program is dormant?

A dormant grant program usually still has a live form but stale evidence: no new grantees, announcements or votes for a year or more, and no reply to recent applications. Check the date of the last published grantee, the last governance vote and the last forum answer from the team. Our guide on how to find Web3 grants covers these checks.
