Web3 grants India and Latin America: who funds builders

Updated 7 min readBy the web3grant editors

Web3 grants India-based and Latin American builders can apply for are mostly Bitcoin programs. As of October 2026, web3grant's directory lists the Bitshala Fellowship for India and South-East Asia, Btrust Developer Grants, which name India and Latin America, and Vinteum in São Paulo, whose grantees are mostly in Brazil. Superteam's India and Brazil listings are paused, so global programs fill the gap.

Key takeaways

  • The Bitshala Fellowship pays $500 a month for 6 to 12 months, with mentoring, to Bitcoin developers, designers and educators based in India or South-East Asia.
  • Btrust Developer Grants name developers in India and Latin America, among other Global South regions, and pay monthly in BTC for open-source Bitcoin work.
  • Vinteum funds experienced open-source Bitcoin contributors from São Paulo; its grantees so far are mostly in Brazil, but its page states no location requirement.
  • Superteam's Solana Foundation listings for India and Brazil, like every regional Superteam listing, showed "Applications Paused" when we checked on October 1, 2026.
  • Global programs such as OpenSats, Brink, Kusama Vision Bounties and Reactive Network accept applicants worldwide, subject to sanctions and KYC checks.

Which Web3 grants are for builders in India?

Two programs in web3grant's directory name India in their rules: the Bitshala Fellowship and Btrust's Developer Grants. Btrust's Education Grants also target the Global South and funded Bitshala itself in 2026.

Bitshala Fellowship

Bitshala is a grassroots Bitcoin education initiative run by Indian Bitcoiners. Its fellowship is the step after its study cohorts, for people who already understand Bitcoin basics and have done some open-source or self-driven work. It is open to developers, designers and educators based in India or South-East Asia.

Developer fellows join an existing project with a mentor or propose their own; past fellows have worked on silent payments, coin selection, Lightning key security, BTCPay Server, Fedimint, Stratum V2 and Rust Bitcoin. Educator fellows run study cohorts, clubs and learning resources in India. Fellows get $500 a month for six months, one-to-one mentoring from contributors to projects such as Bitcoin Core, BDK and BTCPay Server, and monthly progress logs reviewed in mentor calls. Strong fellows can extend to twelve months and get help applying for independent grants. Details are on the Bitshala fellowship page.

Btrust grants

Btrust Developer Grants name developers in Africa, India, Latin America, MENA and Southeast Asia. The six-month Starter Grant needs at least one merged, non-trivial code PR, meaningful reviews and a positive word from a project mentor; the one-year Open-Source Cohort needs an established record and three references. Both pay monthly in BTC. Btrust Education Grants fund training programs for Global South developers run by organizers with a track record; the first 2026 round gave $904,000 to five programs, Bitshala and Vinteum among them.

Which Web3 grants are for builders in Latin America?

Vinteum is the Latin American funder in web3grant's directory, and Btrust names Latin America in its developer grants. The other regional routes we checked were paused or unconfirmed in October 2026.

Vinteum

Vinteum is a non-profit Bitcoin research and development center in São Paulo. It trains, mentors and funds open-source Bitcoin developers, mostly from Brazil, through seminars, the Bitcoin Dev Launchpad, a fellowship for early-career developers and a grants program for experienced contributors.

Vinteum's grants are long-term and flexible, with little management, and fund Bitcoin Core, Lightning, privacy and scalability research, fuzzing, wallet libraries and developer education. Current grantees work on Bitcoin Dev Kit, Floresta, Stratum V2, LND, P2Pool v2, Bitcoinfuzz and BTCPay Server, and after the Launchpad's second cohort Vinteum funded 12 fellows and two new grantees. There is no form: you email a summary of your work, links to past contributions and your funding needs. Eligibility asks for a track record of high-quality contributions, and its page states no location requirement.

Other Latin American routes

  • Localism Fund: its Round 02 funds a year of Latin American Ethereum meetups through December 31, 2026, with $3,000 grants from a $30,000 budget, run with Ethereum Everywhere. When we checked on October 2, 2026, no open application round could be confirmed, so it is not in the directory (Localism Fund).
  • Superteam Brazil: the Solana Foundation's Brazil listing on Superteam Earn showed "Applications Paused" on October 1, 2026.

Which global Web3 grants accept applicants from India and Latin America?

Most programs that accept individuals have no regional rule, so builders in India and Latin America can apply on equal terms. These say explicitly that they take applicants worldwide or have no location limit:

  • OpenSats: developers, designers, researchers, reviewers and educators "anywhere in the world"; the Q4 2026 window is open until November 30, 2026.
  • Brink: year-long grants for established Bitcoin protocol developers anywhere; its fellowship requires a year in London.
  • Kusama Vision Bounties: individuals, teams and collectives worldwide, except sanctioned persons and jurisdictions.
  • Reactive Dev Fund: individual developers and teams worldwide.
  • Sentient Open Source AGI Grants: open worldwide, with a panel that says it reaches into multilingual and underserved markets.

Spiral says its grantees span more than a dozen countries, and the BDK Foundation weighs whether a candidate would bring a new region onto its team. Chain programs that fund individuals without regional limits include these:

The Graph funds community education, events and regional growth, Nym pays for translations and regional community management, and the Polkadot treasury funds education, events and regional community programs. More options are in crypto grants for individuals.

What happened to Superteam India and Brazil grants?

Superteam Instagrants were small Solana Foundation grants of up to $10,000, handed out by local Superteam chapters to builders living in the listing's country. As of October 1, 2026, every regional listing on Superteam Earn, including India and Brazil, showed "Applications Paused", and we found no public reason or restart date.

The India listing was one of the busiest: it showed 127 grants with an average of about $4,800 and an average response time of 30 days. The Superteam grants guide tracks the pause, and the Solana grants page lists the Solana programs that are open.

What should applicants in India and Latin America check first?

Country is rarely the barrier for global programs. Language, identity checks and payment logistics are, so confirm these before you write:

  1. Language. Several programs require English proposals: the EF PhD Fellowship did, Kusama Vision's art initiative does, and the CKB Community Fund DAO accepts English or Chinese. If you want to write in Spanish or Portuguese, ask the program first.
  2. KYC and sanctions. Many programs verify identity before paying, and OpenSats cannot fund grants tied to countries on the OFAC sanctions list. See KYC for crypto grants.
  3. Payment currency. Bitshala pays a USD stipend, Btrust pays monthly in BTC, and 33 of the 99 programs in web3grant's directory can pay in stablecoins or USD. Check your country's rules on receiving and converting crypto with a local tax professional.
  4. Proof of work. Btrust's Starter Grant needs a merged pull request, and OpenSats asks for two written references. Contributions reviewers can check carry more weight than a CV.

FAQ

Are there Web3 grants for students in India?

Yes. The Bitshala Fellowship has no student requirement and takes developers, designers and educators based in India or South-East Asia, paying $500 a month for 6 to 12 months. Btrust's Starter Grant suits newer contributors in India with a merged pull request. Sentient's Open Source AGI Grants name students explicitly. The guide to Web3 grants for students covers the wider options.

Does Vinteum only fund developers in Brazil?

Vinteum's grantees so far are mostly based in Brazil, but its grants page does not state a location requirement, according to our October 2026 check. Vinteum is a non-profit Bitcoin research and development center in São Paulo that funds experienced open-source Bitcoin and Lightning contributors with long-term, flexible grants. Applicants email a summary of their work, past contributions and funding needs.

Is Superteam India still giving grants?

Not as of October 1, 2026. Superteam India's Solana Foundation grant listing, like every regional Superteam listing, showed "Applications Paused" with no restart date. The India listing had shown 127 grants averaging about $4,800. Builders in India can still apply to global Solana Foundation grants, which fund individuals and teams building open-source work on Solana.

Can builders in Latin America get paid in stablecoins?

Some programs pay builders in Latin America in stablecoins or USD: 33 of the 99 programs in web3grant's directory list stablecoins or USD as a payout option as of October 2026, among them Lido's LEGO, Ink Spark grants and Tether Grants and Bounties. Others pay only in their own token or in bitcoin, such as Btrust and OpenSats. Check the payout currency on each program page.
